Prepare and Learn How to Ask for a Raise

Session Description 

As professionals move through their career, the practice of asking for a raise is infrequent and rarely part of an organizations Human Resources process. Establishing a personal dashboard of metrics and accomplishments is key in making the case for a raise or bonus. Illustrating concrete facts and measurements make for a strong case. Participants will be divided into pairs and actively practice asking for a raise. A worksheet indicating key factors to integrate into the ask will be distributed and used as a guide in preparation for the activity.

About the Presenter

Kelly Brennan, Ed.D

Kelly Brennan has been working, teaching, and speaking on educational philanthropy and leadership topics for more than 20 years. She has worked for Columbia University, the Fire Department of New York, New York University, and the New York City Fire Museum.

Currently, she works in Development for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where she is responsible for Alumni Relations, Donor Relations, Recognition and Services, Gifts-in-Kind, and Patient Referrals.

Dr. Brennan is an adjunct instructor in the Higher Education Administration Master’s Program for SUNY Stony Brook. She is an active volunteer serving on the Planning Committee for the Association of Donor Relations Professionals Regional NYC conference. She’s served as a mentor with Women in Development and was previously a board member for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s District II, where she served as Co-Chair of the 2015 conference. She is a past Board of Director for the Iona College Alumni Association, her alma mater. Dr. Brennan has a certificate in Fundraising Management from NYU and a doctorate in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher’s College.
